Our 3rd special edition 7" release, also recorded in lockdown, is out now on Striped Light Records. mssv Meets Nels Cline is a collaboration between mssv and guitarist Nels Cline featuring one song by Nels and one song by mssv guitarist Mike Baggetta. Comes with handmade packaging and handset letterpress design by Bryan Baker of Stukenborg Press, as well as an assortment of special prints with text (poems?) from one of the members of the band. Which print will you get? No one knows!

mssv, composed of guitarist Mike Baggetta, Stephen Hodges on drums and mike watt on bass, creates music that is a heretofore unimagined hybrid of a punk power-trio, noir-tinged adventure music and a dreamy experimental rock band, though they prefer the term “post-genre.”

Their latest full-length album See You Through is the 4th studio album featuring brand new songs that were written by Baggetta before their intercontinental 2025 Haru tour, performed every night, then recorded and produced by Chris Schlarb at BIG EGO Studio in Long Beach, CA immediately after the US leg.

The music on See You Through features 6 longer songs that revel in exploring the psychedelic textures of music in a new mssv way, and was heavily inspired by Curtis Mayfield, Alice Coltrane, Neil Young and a thorough consideration of our current age. Like exploring one’s inner life at a pace diﬀerent from, and yet in sync with, the passage of universal time, or enjoying an eternal drone just for its endless nature and revealing qualities.

See You Through caps mssv’s latest development and evolution as a band on the road, over several years, devoted to serving and reworking the music every night to make it the best it can be from conception to recording. All the lessons learned from teamwork, trust, drama, respect and love for the music are on full display here on this latest album like never before.

There is still the impression of “pressure, combustion, power, and hissing clouds of sonic poetry,” as Premier Guitar said, alongside the sonic exploring that comes from a band that has spent a lot of time together crafting their vision, as well as making room for guests like J Mascis, Petra Haden and Nels Cline on some of their previous releases. There’s no telling which way the band will turn at any given moment, a proposition that becomes a promise when they break down and reassemble these songs live, with an instinct for restraint and an openness to anarchy.
